STYLE RULES — apply to every shot in this film. Look: photoreal, not illustrated or animated. Matte machined metal with worn paint, staining, dulled edges and repaired seams — never clean or new. Fine grain; avoid the uniform cleanliness of digital rendering. Colour: the frame is monochrome — stone grey, iron, snow, charcoal black. Amber is the only chromatic colour that may appear anywhere, and only as the monk's eye lights, the ember of an incense stick, or the light from the furnace observation window. No other colour exists in this film. Light: soft overcast daylight, diffuse, no hard shadows. Interiors are dim, lit through paper screens. No direct sunlight, no dramatic backlight, no high contrast. Daytime only. Camera: locked off and still, or moving so slightly that it is barely perceptible. No pans, no zooms, no orbits, no drone moves, no handheld shake. Standard to slightly long lens; no wide-angle distortion. The horizon stays level and the framing stays square to the architecture — no canted angles. Motion: almost nothing moves. Only cloth, smoke, snow and light may move. No running, no turning around, no sudden gestures, no rotation of more than ninety degrees. Nothing and no one touches anything else — no hands meeting, no hands holding objects, no contact of any kind. Never show: molten metal, flowing liquid or sparks; close-ups of hands; crowds or background figures; any text, numbers or written symbols; bare feet walking. Framing: leave space above the subject. The monk is always filmed at full-body or bust distance — never a close-up of his face.
